By February most Chicagoans have had enough of the cold, the indoor air and the same aching joints returning every year. A Kerala winter is the opposite of that — warm, unhurried, and built around a daily therapy schedule set by a physician. MyVaidyam finds the centre whose doctors handle your condition most often, checks your reports before you commit, and plans the trip end to end.
| Travel | O'Hare's Delhi nonstop is suspended; connect through a Gulf hub. Kerala is usually one more connection. |
| Time difference | India is 10.5 hours ahead (summer) / 11.5 hours ahead (winter) of Chicago. |
| Visa | US passport holders can apply online for India's e-Ayush Visa, made for Ayurveda treatment; a companion can apply for the e-Ayush Attendant Visa. |
| Typical stay | 14 days (detox / rejuvenation) · 21-28 days (chronic conditions). |
| Best season | October-March (escape the Chicago winter) or June-August (Kerala's classical monsoon therapy season). |
| What MyVaidyam does | Centre matching, report review, visa-letter support, pre-arrival planning, and follow-up after you return. |
In India, Ayurveda is a complete clinical programme — a doctor's assessment, a personalised diet, fresh medicines, and Panchakarma therapies given daily in a set sequence.
The physician reviews your progress daily and adjusts therapy, oils and diet as your body responds. You are a patient under supervision, not a guest booking treatments.
Chicago runs on deadlines, commutes and screens. Two or three weeks in a quiet Kerala setting, with no commute and a fixed routine, gives the treatment room to work.
A single week at a US Ayurveda retreat can cost as much as a two-to-three-week residential programme in India — including accommodation, meals and daily therapies.
Many established Kerala centres run their own pharmacies, so your oils and decoctions are prepared under your doctor's instruction, not shipped from a warehouse.
Classical Ayurveda, delivered by qualified Vaidyas in the country where it has been refined for more than 2,000 years.
Ayurveda works alongside your regular medical care. It is especially sought for long-standing, lifestyle-related problems.
| Programme | Typical duration | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Classical Panchakarma Detox | 14-21 days | Deep cleansing, reset, chronic imbalance |
| Stress & Sleep Recovery | 14 days | Burnout, anxiety, insomnia |
| Pain & Joint Care | 21-28 days | Back, neck, knee and arthritis pain |
| Rasayana (Rejuvenation) | 7-14 days | Energy, immunity, healthy ageing |
| Condition-Specific Treatment | 21-28 days | Skin, gut, metabolic and women's health |

O'Hare has carried a nonstop to Delhi in the past, but the route has been suspended. Most patients connect through a Gulf hub such as Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi, which gives the widest choice of arrival airports in India. Nonstop US–India services change from season to season, so check current schedules when you book. Connecting through New York or Newark is the other common route. Expect a full day of travel door to door — we recommend 1-2 rest days before therapy begins.
October-March: pleasant, dry South India while Chicago is at its coldest — our most popular season. June-August: the monsoon season, considered ideal for Panchakarma, quieter and often better value.
At least 14 days for detox or rejuvenation; 21-28 days for a chronic condition. We'll always be honest about what a shorter stay can and cannot achieve.

A full residential programme in India often costs less than a much shorter US retreat. You receive a written quote before you book.
